Respirator Fit Testing

Receive specialized care from our experienced team at Ivany Hearing Industrial.

Ensuring a Proper Seal

A fit test is a specialized protocol to ensure a respirator is comfortable and provides the level of protection required for the job. In British Columbia, WorkSafeBC Regulation 8.40 mandates that workers must be fit-tested before using a respirator and re-tested every 12 months to ensure continued safety.

Qualitative Fit Testing

Primarily used for half-mask/full-face respirators, this is a "pass/fail" method. We use specific agents to detect any leakage into the facepiece.

How it works: We use two standard agents—Bitrex (bitter) or Saccharin (sweet). If the wearer cannot taste or smell the agent, the respirator has a proper seal.

Important Note:

A fit test is not a "seal check." While a fit test is a formal annual requirement, a user seal check must be performed by the worker every single time they put on their mask.
